client news bureauNews Release Back to News Bureau FamilyCare Marks National Caregivers Month in November with Launch of Blog for Professional and Family Caregivers (Portsmouth, Va., Nov. 3, 2010) – The timing is just right for FamilyCare Senior Solutions as it launches a blog for family caregivers during National Caregivers Month in November. Located at www.takecareblog.com, the online journal, Take Care, is written by Geriatric Care Managers Christine Warfel and Angela M. Whitlock, of FamilyCare. “The topic of caregiving is close to our hearts professionally—and personally,” said Warfel. “We wanted a place where caregivers can check in about caregiver tips, aging-related news and advice on ways older adults and their parents can make good choices about planning for the future.” Certified by the National Academy of Certified Care Managers, Whitlock and Warfel are part of a burgeoning industry of health and human services professionals who work with families to assess the needs and help manage the care of older loved ones. They represent two of only three certified geriatric care managers, or GCMs, who work in southeastern Virginia. Those who pass the rigorous GCM exam must be re-certified every three years and log at least 1,500 hours of service annually. In addition to their experience as Geriatric Care Managers, Warfel and Whitlock know first-hand the challenges caregivers face; both were caregivers to older loved ones in their lives. During November, Whitlock will comment on news relayed at the Alzheimer’s Association Education Conference in Hampton Va., during which medical and education experts will explore ways caregivers can enhance the daily life activities of those living with Alzheimer’s, while Warfel will blog about her experience at the Mid-Atlantic Professional Geriatric Care Managers Conference in Fairfax, Va. Geriatric Care Management is one of many services provided by FamilyCare Senior Solutions. Since 1983, FamilyCare has been southeastern Virginia’s leader in healthcare and home services for families. Through a staff of 200 screened, bonded and insured employees, FamilyCare helps its clients navigate the changes and challenges of aging while remaining in their own homes.
